August Silver Sage Monthly Meeting
The Silver Sage Region’s August event, delayed a week after our normal second Saturday because of the Porsche Parade, is a late afternoon and early evening tour that terminates at the Bruneau Dunes State Park for some star-gazing at the Observatory there.
We plan on meeting at the Chevron station at the corner of Overland Rd. and Cloverdale Rd. in Boise at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 19, and departing shortly thereafter. The route will take us mostly on back roads down into Elmore County and on into Owyhee County, and we will stop for dinner at a “quaint” establishment in Grand View. After dinner, we’ll head down through Bruneau and into the park, where the astronomers have a weekend program about the observatory that lasts a half-hour or so, until it’s dark enough to go into the observatory and peer through their various telescopes and other instruments. The staff at the park is very enthusiastic and eager to interact with visitors. We expect to be able to depart in time to make it back to Boise by 11 p.m.
There’s a $4 charge per car to enter the park, and the observatory charges $3 a person. So the charge for a two-person car would be $10, which we will collect at the start so we can make a single payment for the group. In addition, we’re working with the Grand View restaurant to see if they can set up a buffet so we can get in, eat and depart in a timely fashion. If we come up with a fixed dinner price, we’ll collect that at the start as well. Bring your checkbooks.
Please RSVP to Walt at wfthode@rmci.net or 363-9169 by Wednesday, August 16 so I can give the restaurant an idea of numbers to count on for dinner.
Come stargaze with us!
