March 10th Silver Sage Meeting (Vicki Pentecost)
The March 10th meeting of the Silver Sage Region will offer a variety of activities. We’ll begin Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at Wine Corkers on State Street (5634 W. State Street, 208-853-6223) to design some wine. When we finish, we’ll head across the street to the Plantation Golf Course (6515 W. State Street, 208-853-4793) for what we’ll theme as “Irish Pub Night” with a social hour at 6:00 and dinner at 7:00. Of course, knowing the following weekend is St. Patrick’s Day, we want to see everyone out at the meeting, in hopes of winning the “Pot of Green” which should be about $250.
If you’re not familiar with Wine Corkers, it’s a rather new business to Boise where you can Master the Art of Winemaking while enjoying the total experience. Have some fun and let Your Taste Buds Rule! Check out their web site for more information, at www.winecorkers.us. See below for details on how the winemaking might work for us.
At 6:00, we’ll pack up and head over to Plantation for “Irish Pub Night” with the menu featuring Reuben Sandwiches, Fish & Chips, Erin Go Slaw, Irish Bread, Grasshopper Tarts and more. A complimentary Green beer will be served for those choosing to partake in the St. Patrick’s Day tradition. The dinner cost will be $25 per person, please RSVP to Vicki Pentecost at vpentecost@cableone.net or 208-377-4244 by Monday, March 5th. We encourage you to wear green and hopefully take home the “Pot of Green!”
Here’s how we can do the winemaking:
1) We’ll arrive at 4:00, taste some different varietals and decide if you want to individually make six gallons of wine for yourself or if you’d like to split up with other members for less wine or possibly more varieties. The wine list and details are available on their website. Bottles of wine when finished run about $8 per bottle (and, you don’t have to buy an entire barrel!). I would also encourage if you have friends or neighbors that are interested in making wine to bring them along. There will be plenty of space and provide more opportunity to split up the wine.
2) With the help of Wine Corkers experienced staff, you (or your group) select your favorite wine, and add the yeast. Wine Corkers keeps a watchful eye on your wine and handles with loving care in their climate-controlled facility.
3) While you wait for your wine, you can choose a custom label to print from Wine Corkers or you can create your own. If you’d like to put a picture of your Porsche on the label, I’m sure Tom could work with you to help you design your label.
4) In about 4-8 weeks (depending on variety) your wine is ready to bottle and add your customized personal label and seals. Think about all the occasions coming up where custom designed wine and labels would make great gifts (weddings, holiday events, charity auctions, even BBB).
5) No wine before it’s time! Age a few months and enjoy the fine handcrafted “Wine You Designed!”
